The crime "scales" on this site are not always accurate. If you want more accurate crime statistics, look at the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports. You are right -- Modesto is a much more dangerous place to live, and it was recently ranked by "Cities Ranked and Rated", written by the same people as this website (but much more accurate), as the worst place to live in the United States. Sioux City got a modest ranking of #226. Sioux City isn't really a great place to raise a family (because of the poor school system), but the crime rate is only slightly above the U.S. average.
